SSGOMS Formation and History
The South Sound Gem Opal and Mineral Society was formed in 2004 as a collaboration between the Boeing Employees Mineralogical Society and the Northwest Opal Association to bring about a public showing of gems of all kinds.
Since it's formation, the Boeing Employees Mineralogical Society has been renamed as Cascade Mineralogical Society. Still consisting of Boeing employees and former employees as their core, this organization is now open to all who are interested in learning and finding gemstones and fossils.
Contact them at www.cascademineralogicalsociety.org. Their meetings are on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 PM at the American Legion Hall, 25406 97th Pl S, Kent, Washington.
The Northwest Opal Association is a team of Opal lovers that enjoy digging up opals as well as cutting and polishing them. They are a non-profit organization that is open to anyone wanting to know more about the treasures in the earth. Contact them at www.NWopal.com.
Their general meeting is the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 for dinner and 7:30 for the meeting at the Burien Elks, 14006 1st Ave S Burien, Washington.
